Delhi Heritage Walks invites you to participate in its Book Club. Each month we will invite a scholar to discuss a book on history. Through this initiative we hope to reach out to a wider audience which is non-academic but interested in history, to discuss issues of contemporary relevance and share the pleasures and frustrations of a historian’s work. This would be a great opportunity to engage with scholars, expand your understanding of history, share your opinion, and of course, make friends.

We invite you to join the discussion of the book 'The Mughals of India' written by Harbans Mukhia. This is an immensely readable story of the Mughals and their lives in India. It talks about the sources of the Mughals' legitimacy, the evolution and meaning of court etiquette, the world of the imperial Mughal family and the interaction between folklore and court culture. Full of interesting facts, funny anecdotes and backed by solid scholarship, this is a highly recommended reading for anyone interested in Mughal history.

Harbans Mukhia is a historian of medieval India. He retired as Professor from the Jawaharlal Nehru University. His works include Historians and Historiography During the Reign of Akbar (1976), Perspectives on Medieval History (1993), The Feudalism Debate (editor, 1999), Feudalism and Non-European Societies, (co-editor, with T. J. Byres, 1985), French Studies in History (co-editor, with Maurice Aymard, vol. 1, 1988, vol. 2, 1990), and Religion, Religiosity and Communalism (co-editor with Praful Bidwai and Achin Vanaik, 1996). He is the founding editor of The Medieval History Journal.

This event is open to public and there is no participation fee. Those who wish to participate should send us an email at info@delhiheritagewalks.com, giving us your name, contact no. & the no. of people who wish to join.
